Council Remuneration

There is a general circumstance in the Canadian that has our leadership/management grossly under remunerated. We are employing these people to bring their expertise to the challenge of managing our City. Politics is an extremely competitive occupation that exposes individuals to public scrutiny; often public rebuke. We have then the desire to have people who are talented and are willing to expose themselves to the negative aspects of public service; surely they should be at least as well remunerated as the people they are elected to manage. There is no other organization that has the cart before the horse, as government does, pay the most valuable undertaking the least. The cost of paying a few councilors a good income, relative to the entire city budget, is hardly going to challenge the tax payer. What will challenge the tax payer is the unwillingness to pay and recruit to leadership people of substance who can donate their time to the challenge? Presently, we have good people in place, however, they are often occupied with their primary occupation. We need to draw from all walks of life and then we need to professionalize the politics by making it credible as an occupation. Remember, a little money in one place can save a lot of money in another, no other organization needs creative solution like government.
