Symbolism :( :) ;) .....

Symbolism is a powerful tool, a single symbol’s meaning can literally fill a thousand volumes. The breath, depth and speed with which a symbol can convey meaning is at once hopeful and terrifying. The critical issue, while seeming obvious, is that there is the conveyor of the symbol and the receiver of the symbol, between lies interpretation; the responsibility for the outcome of the communication lies with the conveyor. Given that a single symbol can covey complexity, complexity amplified by context, one needs to ensure that in using a symbol, there is a large enough breath of commonality between the conveyor and receiver which permits the communication to be successful. When parties harken from different societal spheres, or even different circles with in the same sphere, interpretation can generate distortion. That is to say, cultural, ethnographical or regional considerations that confound communications explicit in nature; are of greater significance in the use of symbols.  Oft times I examine a symbol and find multiple interpretations and work to ascertain the deliverer's intent, when there no clear action to communicated or no action  that is benign in outcome, no action is taken. I believe that no action, is better than an action that imparts error on the one initiating proceedings.
